Waiting on God's Promises

It has been almost 5 months now, since our country has been on quarantine. We are on Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine now or MECQ, due to the plight of our dear health workers who are also the most affected in this pandemic that has hit the entire global community. I can relate to them because I am also a frontliner in my work assignment in the public sector.

Right now, we are on skeletal work force. I'm off duty so, I have the time to write again. If you have read my previous blog, you know that I'll be getting married soon. The challenge nowadays for most couples, sweethearts, and lovers is that we need to do social distancing. It is so difficult because we, as human beings were made for physical interaction, and connection. The only consolation that we have is that, we are on a very modern-age, and communication is not that difficult, compared in the olden days, wherein, we wait impatiently for the snail-mails to arrive, and as well as long distance-phone calls. Now, everything is within reach, thanks to these smart phones, wherein we can send messages instantly, and use video call. Still, for me this arrangement is very hard. I'm even worried because there are a lot of scenarios running on my mind now, and one, is that our wedding might be cancelled. I also worry that I might get sick, and that is one of my main concern that I told to the priest whom I spoke to during our canonical interview yesterday. Because, we may never know since the Covid cases here in the Philippines are still climbing-up. He said we are all experiencing difficulties during this pandemic, and we should unceasingly pray.

There are a lot of Bible characters that has taught us to wait on the Lord, especially in difficult, and trying times. One was Job who was afflicted with a skin disease, and whose family, tragically died, Joseph who was sold and was taken as a slave to Egypt, Sarah who longed to have a child, and many more. I was searching for the right Bible verse to incorporate into this writing of mine, and I have discovered among the few, from the Song of Songs. It says that "Deep waters cannot quench love, nor rivers sweep it away." It means that true love can overcome any trials.

Love also conquers fear. It says on 1 John 4:17-19, "There is no fear in LOVE, but perfect love drives out fear because fear has to do with punishment, and so one who fears is not yet perfect in love. We love because He first loved us." In these trying times, the more we need to have more faith in God. The more we should call upon Him. As we recall, last Sunday's gospel. We know that if we get carried away by the heavy wind, and the crushing waves, we can rely on our Lord Jesus, that He will lift us up, and help us to rise again. We will be able to pass through any storms in our lives, through His guidance, help and protection.

... And I will wait with hope for our Lord's promises. I trust that HE will never fail me. I pray for my beloved, and I, that we will be safely together soon, in each other's arms, for He has brought the two of us together. What God has joined let no one separate.

My Boaz, My Other Half.

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh." Genesis 2:24

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone?" Ecclesiastes 4:9

"For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the churchHe gave up his life for her." Ephesians 5:25

Yes! I have found Mi Media Naranja, that is a sweet Spanish term for my husband, my wife. In English, it means my other half. I have been long contemplating when is the right time to write about the most important person in my life, and I've decided now is the right time! Since, I'm off from work now due to MECQ, more strict quarantine measures are implemented now. I'm pretty sure that now is a good time to write about this. Most of the closest people I know, knew that it has been a decade since my last relationship. In between those years, I met a few guys but its either I like them, and obviously they are not interested in me, like the way I am interested in them. They just see me as a friend, or just a girl who likes them and nothing more. I even confessed my feelings before, and I've been friendzoned a lot of times. When I got brokenhearted from my first relationship, I even had bitterness towards God. That's why I met a lot of Protestant people, and pastors. Most of them are good people, and even if their beliefs aren't the same as ours. I thought I would find the right man for me in that place, but the answer is still "no!".

Then in 2018, I decided to withdraw from the Protestant church that I attend to, and return to the Roman Catholic church. I spoke to a priest (Fr. Matt, a foreigner priest probably from India), and made a confession, I told him of my long absence in the Roman Catholic church, and my desire to return again. I was forgiven, and welcomed again. Like I said, I felt like I was the prodigal daughter.

Those who are close to me know how long I have been praying for the right man to come to my life.  There was even a time when I asked myself if I will find the right guy for me, and there were so many nights that I've cried myself to sleep out of frustration. I really didn't expect that the love of my life now, would be the one for me. Yes, when we first met, we somehow started on the wrong foot. Firstly, I wasn't that attracted to him physically, and I hate it when people would make a joke, and pair me everytime with a single guy in our office. I was different back then. I was even sort of rude to him. As they say, I was like a regular cranky office employee. But I was changed by love. I was changed by him. I thought that it only happens in movies. I woke up one day, and I just realized that I like him!

I thank God for my love. For sending him, and giving him to me. Even before the time when he and I, are not in a serious relationship, before we became a couple, I promised our Lord, that I will love, and care for him deeply. He is the gift that I have been waiting, and praying for my whole life! I am now engaged, and we will get married hopefully this year.

My love, Mahal, if you are reading this I promise (I know some people make their promises but break it soon after, that's why I will write this entry as a reminder, lest I forget) to be faithful, to you and love you as long as I exist here on earth. Thank you for coming into my life, for giving me the chance to love you, for accepting me, for wanting me to be a part of your life. I promise, to be a loving and dutiful wife to you, as well as to be always your best friend, and confidant, to whom you can always tell and disclose all your cares, and concerns, and I promise to be here for you no matter what. We will be a good team, and I know we will be good partners who support each other, together for life, through ups and downs, in joy and in sorrow, through sickness and health, that's for sure! Like how faithful is Ruth to Boaz, I will be the same with you. Let me quote a Bible verse from the book of Ruth. "Do not urge me to leave you or turn back from following you; for where you go, I will go, and you lodge, I will lodge." Ruth 1:15

Yes, it took a long time for me to find the one, but I know it has been worth the wait. It is not really about finding the right one, but it is learning to love the one you've found. Like what our parish priest said in one of his homilies, Love is a decision! Yes, I agree that love is not just a feeling, but a decision, and a commitment. Never give up on love, pray always, and keep the faith!

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs." 1 Corinthians 13:4

A Comics Strip, My Prayer, and the Song of My Heart

We were dismissed early at work today because of the strong typhoon named 'Yolanda'. Still, we need to pray for those who were badly affected by the storm. Anyway, about this entry of mine. I read in one of the Christian websites that I have visited, a very beautiful prayer, "Prayer for a future husband." I'm really very vocal about this desire of mine. Still, I am not giving up and I'm not losing hope that someday, GOD will bring us together. Sometimes I can't help but ask, 'what's taking it so long?' Here's a comics strip that I found on the internet that exactly describes how I feel.

I remember someone said, if we are going to ask GOD for something, why not tell Him about what you really want. So I edited this prayer that I found on a website and added my very own list. The author of this prayer is now married to the man of her dreams. (I included the link of the webpage below). Yes, I believe that GOD can write your own love story, not just a love story but a beautiful one! So here's the prayer. To all the single Christian women right now, you can use this as a pattern when you pray someday for your future husband. It's not too late to pray, maybe you can start praying now! Also, I'm not saying that GOD will send you a husband with the exact qualities that you've asked for. This is just my way of asking Him, and I'm not in a way setting your hopes high that GOD will send you your 'ideal person', after all, He knows what's best for us. We still need to trust Him regarding this matter.

Dear Almighty GOD, our Father, (Adonai Elohai, Abba)

I want a Christian home. I want to raise a Christian family. One that goes to church on Sundays, is involved with the church, and prays together at night. I want a husband. I want a spiritual leader. A man that will lead me. I want that man who prays for me, and I pray for him. I want a man that prays with me. Who smiles because he’s drunk in love with YOU! Who relies on You.

I want a man who is unconditional in his ways (love, gifts, kindness, helping hand). Who doesn’t expect things in return – EVER. Who accepts the world as it is and doesn’t let it affect his walk with You. I want a man who wants to change the world.

I want a man that knows You!!! I want a man that will accept Your blessings even the small ones. A man that makes me feel like he can make a mountain out of a mole hill even if there is no dirt or rock to make one with. I want a man that is positive and understanding. A man that makes me push to be a better person. A man excited about life and looks forward to life after death. A man that has a spot in heaven and will help me in my spiritual journey. Because that’s what life is … a journey of grace. God’s grace.

And while I’m asking. Can I have a man who is a gentleman? A man who has goals in life and who knows how to manage his money? Someone who is either musically inclined, or someone who is creative and artistic, who loves learning new things, and is a patient and a good teacher to me. Someone, who's more like me in not so many ways, and most importantly someone whom I like, and who likes me too!

All these, I ask in Jesus' (Yeshua's) name.

Still waiting patiently. Amen.

 Prayer for a future husband

I will not end this entry, without giving you a song. This is a really beautiful (duet) song made for married couples and also for single people like us, who are still waiting. John Waller is the singer of this song, he's the one who sang the OST of 'Fireproof', "While I'm Waiting." He sang this together with his wife, Josee.

My prayer for all of you who are still waiting, I hope and pray that GOD will bless you in this season of waiting, that You continue Your walk with the Lord, our GOD, and to always put Your trust in Him no matter what.  GOD be praised always!

The Marriage Prayer

Father, I said 'till
Death do us part
I want to mean it
With all of my heart

Help me to love You
More than I love her
Then I know I can
Love her more
Than anyone else

And bring her in
Your presence today
Make her what
You want her to be

I pray to hear her heart
I pray she'll love You more
I pray to cherish and serve her
And we'll bring You glory today, I pray

Father, I said 'till
Death do us part
I want to mean it
With all of my heart

Help me to love You
More than I love him
Then I know I can
Love him more
Than anyone else

And bring him in
Your presence today
Make him what
You want him to be

I pray to hear his heart
I pray he'll love You more
I pray to strengthen and serve him
We'll bring You glory today, I pray

Lord, help me love her
As You love the church, Your bride

Help me submit to him
As I submit to You, my life

This is my prayer. Amen.

Why We Should Pray for Israel

I've planned to write an article before on why we should pray for Israel. But now, I have decided to share a short but very comprehensive article about praying for Israel. I would like to quote what Lt. Col. Bentzi Gruber's statement in a documentary about the IDF (Israel Defense Forces). He said, "We are a very unique and democratic country in this area (Israel). We are 5.5 million Jews surrounded by 600 billion Muslims." This is one reason why we should pray for peace in Israel. In this rift between the Muslim-Arab nations and Israel, there are civilians who are also affected, lots of casualties, wounded people, including the helpless children. Anyway, still clueless on why we should pray for Israel. Read the article below.

---
Why should we pray for Israel?  Does the Bible instruct us to?  Should we also be praying for the peace of Jerusalem like the Old Testament prophets sometimes did?  Should a Christian be obligated to pray for Israel? In Psalm 122:6 it says, “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May those who love you be secure.”

God’s Chosen People?

God calls Israel the “apple of His eye” which is a term of endearment (Duet. 32:10, Zech. 2:8).  God adds a blessing to those nations and people who bless Israel and a curse on those who curse Israel (Gen. 12:2-3).  Do these blessings and cursings still apply?  I do not see why they don’t since God changes not (Malachi 3:6).  God was seen as the husband of Israel (Jer. 3:14).  God is evidently still concerned over Israel, saying in 2 Chronicles 6:6, “Yet I have chosen Jerusalem, that My name may be there, and I have chosen David to be over My people Israel.”  Wherever God places His name is where He still places His love.  Jesus wept over Jerusalem, knowing what their fate held, “As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it” (Luke 19:41).

This may be the very reason that God has prospered the United States.  America is one of the few nations that have chosen to be her ally but that seems to have recently began to change.  When America withdraws her support and defense of Israel, God could take His hand of blessing off of the U.S.  Perhaps He has already begun to do so since relations with Israel have cooled off lately.

Israel is surrounded by hostile nations and a religion (Islam) that seeks her destruction.  A blessing is pronounced over those who will pray for and bless Israel (Numb. 24:9).  God will never abandon Israel and in the end, Israel will be saved by God Almighty (Malachi 3:6, Romans 11:1).  Since Paul commands Christians to pray for governmental authorities and leaders, (Rom 13:1-7) why should we not also be praying for peace in the Middle East and in particular, for Israel?  No, Israel is not perfect and she has made many mistakes, but they are God’s chosen people (Duet. 6:3-4).

Listen to what the prophet’s and Old Testament writers say about Israel:
Isaiah 48:12Listen to me, Jacob, Israel, whom I have called: I am he; I am the first and I am the last.

Psalm 105:43 He brought out his people with rejoicing, his chosen ones with shouts of joy.”

Isaiah 41:8-9But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, you descendants of Abraham my friend, I took you from the ends of the earth, from its farthest corners I called you. I said, ‘You are my servant’; I have chosen you and have not rejected you.

Deuteronomy 7:8-9But it was because the LORD loved you and kept the oath he swore to your ancestors that he brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt. 9 Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.

Deuteronomy 14:2For you are an holy people unto the LORD your God, and the LORD has chosen you to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.”

Why We Should Pray for Israel

There are dozens of Scriptures where God says that we should pray for the peace of Israel.  In Psalm 122:6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May those who love you be secure.”  Not only does this say that we should pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and by extension, Israel, we read that “those who love you [will] be secure.”  This is a clear signal that God would be pleased that we pray for Israel’s peace and safety because God is not giving up on Israel (Rom 10:1).
it says, “
In the New Testament, Paul prayed for Israel’s salvation, saying, “Brothers and sisters, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved” (Rom 10:1).  If Paul is telling the church that his heart’s desire is to pray for Israel and that “they may be saved” that should clearly be our prayer for them also.  Believers today are grafted into the natural olive tree – described as ethnic Israel – for we are “fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household” (Eph. 2:19).  Romans 11:24 is clear about this: “After all, if you were cut out of an olive tree that is wild by nature, and contrary to nature were grafted into a cultivated olive tree, how much more readily will these, the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree!

What about the Lost 10 Tribes of Israel?

Perhaps you have heard about the lost 10 tribes of Israel which were separated from Judah when the Northern Kingdom was taken into captivity by the Assyrians (2 Kings 17).  The fact is that nothing is lost to God.  They are lost to history perhaps, but to God, never!  Revelation 7:4-8 says that these tribes are not lost if God knows where they are:

Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel. From the tribe of Judah 12,000 were sealed, from the tribe of Reuben 12,000, from the tribe of Gad 12,000, from the tribe of Asher 12,000, from the tribe of Naphtali 12,000, from the tribe of Manasseh 12,000, from the tribe of Simeon 12,000, from the tribe of Levi 12,000, from the tribe of Issachar 12,000, from the tribe of Zebulon 12,000, from the tribe of Joseph 12,000, from the tribe of Benjamin 12,000.

The Remnant of Israel

God has not rejected His people Israel and today we are Jews who are ones inwardly as Paul writes in Romans 2:29 “No, a man is a Jew if he is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man’s praise is not from men, but from God.”  Neither has God rejected His chosen people.  Paul testifies to this fact in Romans 11:1-2 “Did God reject his people? By no means! I am an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin. God did not reject his people, whom he foreknew. Don’t you know what the Scripture says in the passage about Elijah—how he appealed to God against Israel.

Further, Paul says that “If some of the branches have been broken off, and you, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root, do not boast over those branches. If you do, consider this: You do not support the root, but the root supports you. You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in.” Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but be afraid” (Rom 11:17-20).

I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in [or has been saved]. And so all Israel will be saved [true Israelites, whether ethnic or spiritual, e.g. Rom 2:29], as it is written: “The deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob [Israel]. And this is my covenant with them when I take away their sins” (Rom 11:25-27).  This does not mean that all of Israel will be saved…the entire nation and all Israelites of all time, but those who come to believe in Jesus Christ. This will happen someday when Israel finally recognizes Jesus Christ as the Messiah.  The nation will finally accept Him as the Prophesied One.

Today there are Messianic Jews who already believe that Jesus is the Messiah.  The national stock of Israel will join these Messianic Jews, but not until the “fullness of times” or when the last person is saved prior to Christ’s return as King of kings and Lord of lords. That time appears to be fast approaching.  Jerusalem means “king of” (Jeru) “peace” (Salem).   Jerusalem is anything but peaceful right now but the King of Peace is coming.  Until then, believers ought to be praying for the peace of Israel and for the King of Peace to come soon.  Even so Lord, come quickly. That is my prayer and I hope you will join me in praying for His Kingdom to come and for the peace of Jerusalem and for Israel.

The Greatest Love

"But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that made us whole, and with His stripes we are healed." - Isaiah 53:5

Lenten season is a time of fasting and abstinence for Catholics all over the globe. The remembrance of our Lord’s passion and death. They consider this time as a fitting day to practice mortification, penance, and for meditation on the mystery of our redemption.
Is it really a mystery? Christ has shown us clearly through His death and resurrection, that He has won over death, evil and sin. There’s nothing really “hidden” in that.  In abstaining from something, like from eating meat or extravagant food within this season or in anytime of the year, I don’t see anything wrong with that. As long we do it with good intention.

A lot of people now are re-enacting the passion and death of Our Lord Jesus in the streets and especially in the provinces, particularly in Pampanga. It is really indeed troubling.  Curious journalist have interviewed these people and most of them answered that they’re doing this in order for them to atone for their sins, that somehow this “act” will “lessen”or diminish the amount of sin in their lives. In Ephesians 2:8, we are reminded that it is not through our works that we are saved but through our faith. I once heard a pastor, explaining that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and we are responsible for our own body. So these acts of mortification and inflicting pain in ourselves, doesn’t really glorify our Lord GOD. No amount of penitence or sacrifices can ever pay our sins! The good thing is that JESUS, has paid it all for us! Completely!
This time is an opportunity for us to reflect and meditiate on Our Lord’s passion, death and resurrection, to understand its significance and importance. More than family bonding, and get together, why not, bond by reading the the gospel and study the good news! You can also watch Christian movies like “The Passion of Christ”. Let us use this time wisely. I have nothing against going out and bonding with one another but remember this is not always about having fun or about ourselves! It’s all about HIM!
I am amazed by Our Lord’s great love for us. When I accepted Him in my life that is when I really understood, His sacrifice for us and GOD’s amazing grace to a sinner like me. Like a line from one of my favorite Christian song – “In His suffering He thought of me. He gave His life for me and He made a way for me to know Him!” What kind of love is that? So selfless!”

In closing, I’d like to say a short prayer.

“Dear Almighty Father in heaven, thank You for sending Your only son, our Lord Jesus. For His stripes we are healed. Lord Jesus, thank You for Your great love to us. Thank You for being my Lord and Savior and for not giving up on me. Guide me always everyday.” Amen.

 What Love is This? (MV)
You never change, you are the GOD you stay a while
when I'm afraid you calm and still my beating heart
You stay the same, when hope is just a distant thought
You take my pain
and you lead me to the cross

What love is this?, that you gave Your life for me
and made a way for me to know You
and i confess You're always enough for meYou're all i need

I look to You
I see the scars upon Your hands
And hold the truth
That when i can't You always can
I'm standing here beneath the shadow of the cross,
I'm overwhelmed that I keep finding open arms

What love is this?,
that you gave your life for me and made a way for me to
know you.
And I confess, You're always enough for me
You're all i need

Jesus in Your suffering, You were reaching your thought of me.

Teach My Heart

Everyone of us is struggling with something, one way or another we all have struggles. We try to remove these things in our lives the hard way, like when we remove dark stains in a plain sheet of cloth. These past few months has been really hard for me. Like Achilles I was hit by an arrow not in my heel but in my heart. My heart is my weak point, like Achilles' heel. So does everyone of us.
I was not really aware that it has become an "idol", and that desire has almost consumed me. It has even come to a point that I was really affected by that "desire", to the point my relationship with GOD was really affected. It also has become a persistent thought in my head that even my sleep pattern was affected. Selfish desires engulfed me and I have been also acting immaturely over these feelings, and shameful as it is I was really "sourgraping", when I came to know I cannot get hold of that "desire".
Still, GOD has been merciful and watching me all these time. I thank my fellow Christian brothers and sisters who are helping me get my life back on track. I was rebuked , and it felt like a slap in the face. A rebuke is painful but like the verse in the bible, "Better is open rebuke than hidden love." (Proverbs 27:5).
My prayer now is for our Lord GOD to change my heart and teach my heart to focus and fall in love with Him, day by day, like the prayer of St.Anselm, a theologian and a philosopher, that I might find Him in my desire, and that in desiring Him, I might find Him and when I find Him, I will love Him more and more each day.
(click on the title link below to listen and watch the music video)
Oh Lord, my GOD teach my heart where and how to seek You, teach my heart where and how to find You.
You are my GOD and You are my All and I have never seen You.
You have made me and remade me,
You have bestowed on me all the good things I possess,
Still I do not know You…
I have not yet done that for which I was made….
Teach me to seek You…
I cannot seek You unless you teach me
or find You unless you show yourself to me.
Let me seek You in my desire, let me desire You in my seeking.
Let me find You by loving You, let me love You when I find You.
Teach me Lord, where and how to find You...

Sa Iyo Lamang (Pilgrimsong's theme)

It is the month of February. In shopping malls everywhere,  love is in the air again. Cute teddy bears, chocolate and heart shaped decorations, pillows and anything with hearts are up and are on display and for sale! Come, February 14, all the people around the world will be celebrating "valentines day" (originated from Roman tradition in honor of St.Valentine). For me, I believe love can be celebrated any day, everyday and in every way. It's just that February has been the customary tradition to celebrate, "love day". I'm sure married couples as well as single people with their "special someone" are excited to celebrate Vday

Sorry to disappoint my readers, but I will not be posting about my "someone special" in this blog. I want to dedicate this post to our Almighty Father. I have heard a very beautiful song just the other day while checking out youtube. It is sung by my favoring acoustic singer. Then I said to myself what a beautiful song of praise it is to our Almighty Father! So I then decided to  make it my blog's theme song. So to honor Him this love month, I am posting the lyrics and video below. Pilgrimsong is the title of my blog. Why the title? because, I know I am a pilgrim on this earth. I'm aware this is not my permanent home and what I am feeling, I express it better through songs.  For every entry, I try to make it a point to include a song that goes together with my entry. Now, who says that love songs can only be dedicated to a person?

I dedicate this song, to my dear Almighty Father. Like a line from a song that goes, "You are my source, You are my hope, You are the light that shines within me, You are the air that I breathe..." This song is for Him. I will never ever get tired of saying, "Thank You", and to sing songs of praise for Him everyday. This is the song of my heart for Him. My blog's theme song.

Composer: Juvic Ann Capistrano
Interpreter: Ms. Suy Galvez

Dinggin mo aking pag-ibig,
sa Iyoý aking inaawit.
Puso koý Iyong masdan,
Ikaw ang sýang laman.

Himig ng pusoý ang alay,
sa Iyo O Diyos, aking buhay,
at hindi nagmamaliw
ang Iyong pagmamahal.

O Diyos, Ikaý aawitan,
bawat ngayon at kailanman.
Bawat himig at tinig,
na aking tinataglay,
sa Iyo, O Ama, lamang.

Sa Iyo nagtitiwala,
Buhay ko't aking magagawa.
Puso koý Iyong hagkan,
sa magpakailanman.

At hindi magsasawa,
awit koý ipadama.
Aking Diyos,
Ikaw ang aking ligaya.
